Metal Urns - Bronze Urns
There are different types of metals used for making urns, in this category you may find bronze, brass, copper, and pewter generally and gold and silver rarely. Bronze urns are usually made like a sculpted art piece, or they are fabricated from sheet bronze and put together by welded joints. The latter method is used primarily for producing rectangular and square urns.
Brass urns produce a unique look such as the cloisonné urn in which the urn is fired with a brilliant enamel finish. Brass urns may have a variety of plated or painted finishes. This method allows for production of beautiful urns at reasonable prices. The spun metal urns are made from various metals and are cylindrical in shape with a brushed appearance that runs horizontally. Metal cremation urns comprise the vast majority of offering simply because of the wide variety available and durability they offer.
Bronze urns usually have a universal appeal. Their beauty, strength, durability and indestructible qualities make them a popular choice of urns. Bronze is an alloy that has been used over the centuries for casting magnificently crafted sculptures and art pieces, because of its ability to capture intricate details and nuances that bronze is so popular in artistic sculptures. There are two types of bronze urns available these are cast bronze urns and sculpted bronze urns.
The cast bronze urns are made either by the casting method or utilizing sheet bronze that has been welded together. Cast bronze urns take on many shapes such as rectangles, angular shapes, book shapes, or the traditional urn shape. These urns may accept a wide array of finishes. The sculpted bronze urns are cast using the lost wax method and they are considered art pieces in their own right. In fact most of the sculpted bronze urns can be passed off as an artistic sculpture not giving any clues as to what is contained within.
The bronze urns may be given different kind of finish like Natural Finish; these urns are made from solid sheets of bronze, the natural finish on which is a bright bronze surface that takes on a matt appearance. No further finishing is needed on the urn; some of these are finished with a lacquered coating to protect the bronze against oxidation. This type of finish is common on sculpted bronze urns. To get the bronze urn with a deeper luster finish, the surface of the urn is gently brushed with a mildly abrasive material. The brushed finish achieved is more refined than on a bronze urn with a natural finish. The bronze urns can be plated with precious metal to enhance their appeal.
Plated finishes in 24kt gold are very appealing. The Metal urn is then polished to a mirror like finish that is highly reflective. Bronze urns with a copper-green finish on them or a deep aquamarine or blue finish are achieved by a verdigris patina. Bronze urns with this type of finish take on an antique appearance.
Like the bronze urns copper and pewter urns are also very popular as they contain same qualities as offered by the bronze urns. The method of making these urns also resembles to the making of the bronze urns and finishing and polishing procedure is also same.
Next comes the range of Gold and silver urns these are exclusive and intricately hand crafted ones. Usually gold urns are not available and the replacements you may find is the gold plated ones. Silver urns are of course available but these are too costly for the general masses. But the look, finish and craftsmanship they present is generally memorable, matching to the individual for whom it is being used.
